Holiday is a time to get off the hustle and bustle of day to day activities, a time to relax. What kind of holiday is this, you might ask, being woken at 5.30am? The earliest bird catches the worm. Sunrise in East Africa is not to be missed. Where else can you sit in bed and hear lions roar or hyenas laugh at dawn?
In East Africa, the first and last three hours of the day are the best, and the early start is so you can be out in the bush while the big cats are still active. Later, when the day warms up, they will go flat in the shade, and so you return to camp for brunch after your first game drive of the day, the search for the Big Cats.

There will be enough time to swim or to take a siesta before afternoon tea and fresh biscuits as no one goes hungry on safari, after which you drive out again, camera in the hands, to search for the Big Five. In the national parks you are allowed to do game drives until sunset or up to 6.30pm, but on private game reserves you can stay out for sun downer and drive home in the dark with a spotlight doing a game drive. Lastly, to summarize the day, a hot shower, drinks by the campfire and dinner under the African sky with millions of stars and by 10pm you’ll be ready for bed for a good night’s sleep with the roaring lions and laughing hyenas in the distant before your next dawn wake-up call – another day full of wildlife activity…
